This annual competition had its inaugural season in 2013. With so many dedicated coursing hound/owner teams in the area, Southern California Lure Coursing wanted to create a year-long competition for them.
Each year, 14 trials are designated as SoCal Cup events. A hound must qualify in at least 8 of these events to be eligible for the SoCal Cup in December. At trials, hounds earn points based on the number of dogs defeated within their breed stakes.
In each breed, up to 3 hounds with the highest total points are Breed Finalists in the SoCal Cup. At the December event, Breed Finalists compete to determine a Breed Winner. These winners run in a “Best In Field” style format to determine who will be the SoCal Cup Champion.
